About Bernardo 1946

Bernardo 1946 was established in 1946 by Bernard Rudofsky, an architect, artist, and best-selling author. The Bernardo sandal was inspired by Rudofsky's fascination with ancient architecture and the social theories presented at his 1944 exhibition "Are Clothes Modern?" at the Museum of Modern Art. The sandal was designed to liberate the foot from the restrictive footwear of the 1940s and is credited with being the first modern-day women's sandal.
